Tutorial : Metal Earth

A tutorial on how to metalic earth

Copy the world map image above

Duplicate map.gif to a new layer name it as map,
Select Layer -> Layer Style -> Bevel and Emboss with the following setting
Style = inner bevel, Technique = Smooth, Depth = 100%, Direction = up, Size = 2px, Soften = 0px

Results will be as on the right

select elliptical marquee tool

Select Filter -> Distort -> Spherize ( 100%)
Set foreground with #999999 & black background
Set gradient tool radiant gradient fill the map are below
Create a layer named background & with the elliptical marquee still on fill the layer with radiant gradient too
With the Background layer Select Filter -> add Noise 5%, Uniform, monochromatic
Press Ctrl - Shft - I & press Delete to delete the outer for both layer

Merge the 2 layer together using Merge Visible

Select Filter -> Render -> Lighting follow the setting on the right

With a bit of touch up on the colorung & background you will get something like that
